College Checklist
Use the list below to track your college planning progress during 10th, 11th, and 12th grades.
| Grade 10: | |
| Take PSAT and/or PLAN in the fall | |
| Verify that student’s course schedule is on track with intended diploma type (CORE 40 or Academic Honors) and in line with career and college goals | |
| Begin and/or continue college savings | |
| Start notebook or other method of documenting student achievements | |
| Grade 11: | |
| Take PSAT in October (National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Exam) | |
| Verify that student’s course schedule is on track with intended diploma type (CORE 40 or Academic Honors) and in line with career and college goals; enroll in AP and honors courses, when available and appropriate | |
| Identify student’s top priorities for college selection | |
| Visit as many colleges of interest as possible | |
| Take SAT (March, May and/or June), SAT Subject Tests if needed (May and/or June) and/or ACT (February, April and/or June) | |
| Take AP tests in the spring (May) for AP courses completed junior year (if appropriate) | |
| Register with NCAA Clearinghouse if student plans to play Division I or II sports in college (following junior year) | |
| Continue college savings | |
| Continue documenting student achievements | |
| Grade 12: | |
| Take SAT / SAT Subject Tests (October, November, December and/or January), and/or ACT (September, October and/or December) as needed | |
| Make sure student’s senior schedule fulfills final requirements for intended diploma type CORE 40 or Academic Honors); continue AP and honors courses, when available and appropriate | |
| Reassess student’s top priorities for college selection | |
| Visit final college choices | |
| Complete and mail all college admission applications and scholarship applications, paying close attention to various deadlines (including Early Decision and Early Action if applicable) | |
| Register with NCAA Clearinghouse if student plans to play Division I or II sports in college | |
| File the FAFSA after January 1 and before March 10 (for Indiana residents); check with colleges to see if they require filing by an earlier date and/or completion of additional financial aid forms | |
| Review Student Aid Report (SAR) following FAFSA submission and colleges’ financial aid packages | |
| Take SAT Subject Tests as needed for college admission and/or placement (October, November, December and/or January) | |
| Take AP tests in the spring (May) for AP courses completed senior year (if appropriate) | |
| Submit enrollment deposit to college student will attend by National Candidate Reply Date of May 1 OR other designated date as specified by the college | |
