Many families assume that college is so far off that there is nothing to do now to begin planning for this important phase of life. Not true – the earlier, the better!

Watch your child and take
note of his/her natural interests, curiosities and abilities.
Casually discuss with him/her the kinds of careers and
professions that are related to those interests and the
types of jobs that may be exciting for them to explore
someday. |

Start saving money for college.
Some parents believe that unless they have a lot of cash to set aside, there's little point in opening a Coverdell Education Savings Account or Section 529 Plan, or even setting aside some funds for college in another type of savings account. Not
true. Saving even a little bit can add up over
time and starting early is critical. Click

Get involved in your child’s
school work. Although parents aren’t
typically with their children all day while in school,
they remain most influential in the development
of their children’s goals and dreams. Help
make school fun and interesting for your child. |
|
|
Communicate with the teachers
and staff at your child’s school. Become
comfortable in the school environment so that you
get updates & information on your child’s
progress now and so that you are prepared to ask
important questions regarding high school planning
and college later. |
