College Prep Schedule

The majority of colleges in Indiana will require that you graduate with a Core 40 Diploma. However, many schools prefer to see the Core 40 with Academic Honors. Regardless of which Diploma you pursue, taking the most challenging class you can will help to prepare you for college. Keep up your grades and take a challenging schedule—even your senior year. It counts!

A College Prep Schedule usually includes:

4 years of Math: Alegbra, Trigonomenty, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus or Advanced Calculus

4 years of English, Composition or Literature

3-4 years of a foreign language

4 years of Social Studies, History or other Social Science including Psychology, Sociology or Anthropology

3-4 years of a Lab Science: Biology, Chemistry, Physics,
Electives in computers, drama, art, music, or other areas of interest

Advanced Placement Classes are always impressive on a transcript and often provide college credit if you complete the exams with a 3 or higher. Visit www.collegeboard.com to learn more about Advanced Placement.

The International Baccalaureate Program is now offered at many high schools. IB also provides college credit after a series of rigorous exams. Visit http://www.ibo.org/ to learn more.

Taking classes at a local college or through a dual credit program at your high school is a great way to earn college credits, take challenging coursework, and prepare for the rigor of college. Ask your guidance counselor if any college level courses are offered at your high school or in your area. Often times, the colleges discount these courses for high school students.
